The certified guides of local communities that belong to Kawsay Wasi project will company you on a journey through different environmental interpretation paths of the jungle, where you can appreciate the biodiversity of this important protected area.

During your stay and meanwhile you addresses to the main attractions of the area, guides will show and explain the social and environmental area. Two of the most important pathways culminate with the sight to Bats and Birds Cavern and the enigmatic Guacharos birds (nocturnal birds endemic to the region), on the other hand the bird watching called “Cock of the Rocks”, birds that surprises by its striking red color and they are famous for being an emblem of the neighboring country Peru.

Additionally, if your stay is extended, we offer various adventure activities (such as river rafting in Espiritu Santo River), approach with local communities (Visit to traditional farm plots of coca leaf, important plant for area economy and Bolivia culture) and other.

Programme
We pick you up at your hotel at 08:30 and head to Parque Nacional Carrasco that is located at a 20 minute ride from Villa Tunari town. There Kawsay Wasi community guides will take you on a path leading to the bat and enigmatic oilbird caves. Those nocturnal birds are endemic in the Park.  After that you can enjoy the crystalline river San Rafael water before going to Villa Tunari for lunch.
In the afternoon you will visit some families that will show you their coca-producing plots and explain more about that plant that is very important to the area’s economy and to Bolivian culture. Then we will start a two-hour walk to viewing the small red-coloured Rock Cock-of-the-Walk birds at sunset. These birds represent the emblem of our neighbouring country Peru.  After that we go back to Villa Tunari, end of our services, around 7.00 p.m.

COCHABAMBA TROPICS - 2 DAYS/1 NIGHT

Day 1 Kawsay Wasi We leave Cochabamba at 08:30 a.m. and head to the Tropics. After lunch in Villa Tunari, we visit Parque Nacional Carrasco, located at a 20 minutes ride from Villa Tunari. There Kawsay Wasi community guides will take you on a path leading to the bat and enigmatic oilbird caves. Those nocturnal birds are endemic in the Park. After that you can go for a dip in the crystalline river San Rafael water before returning to Villa Tunari for dinner.
As to the second day you can make your choice between two options: Day 2 Option 1: After a tropical breakfast, we take a rafting and navigate on river Espíritu Santo. After lunch in Villa Tunari, we return to Cochabamba, arrival around 5:00 p.m. Option 2: After a tropical breakfast, visit of Parque “Machia” , an animal shelter for ill-treated wild animals such as spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, badgers, jochis, pumas, bears, sloths, several kinds of parrots. You can be quite sure that you will view many monkeys and parrots. Lunch at your hotel at 12:00, and, after that, departure to Cochabamba, arrival around 5:00 p.m. Advices We recommend you to take fresh clothing, comfortable shoes, repellent, sunglasses and a sun-block cream.

Day 1: From Cochabamba to the tropics
We will leave Cochabamba in the morning at 08:30 to go the tropics. We will take a short break at the Incachaca bridge to walk and observe the beautiful flora and fauna of the moist forest. We will have lunch in the vicinity of a place where trout is bred. After lunch we will continue our journey through the tropics till we finally reach Villa Tunari. In the afternoon we will visit Machía Park, a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre. We will have dinner and spend the night in a family-run hotel in Villa Tunari.

Day 2: Carrasco National Park
After breakfast we will go to the entrance of Carrasco National Park, located about 20 minutes from Villa Tunari. Together with the local guides of Kawsay Wasi we will follow a pathway which will get us to know caves where bats and guacharos (nocturnal birds) live. We will enjoy the crystal-clear water of the San Rafael river before we return to Villa Tunari to have lunch. In the afternoon we will visit some families who produce coca and they will tell us about the importance of this plant for the region’s economy and the cultural heritage of Bolivia. Then we will walk about two hours until we arrive at sundown at rocks where nest “Gallitos de las Rocas”, small, red birds which represent the logo of our neighbour country Peru. We will return to Villa Tunari to have dinner and to spend the night.

Day 3: River Espíritu Santo / Cochabamba
In the morning we will do some serious rafting on the river “Espíritu Santo”. After lunch in the city we will head back to Cochabamba, where we will arrive at approximately 18:00 Hrs.  –End of our services-

KAWSAY WASI AND LA CHONTA TROPICS - 5 days/4 nights

Day 1  Kawsay Wasi
We leave Cochabamba in the morning at 08:30 and head to the Tropics. After lunch in Villa Tunari town we visit Carrasco National Park, located at a 20 minutes ride from Villa Tunari. There the Kawsay Wasi community guides will lead us along a path that reaches the bat and enigmatic oilbird caves, nocturnal birds that are endemic in the park. Then we’ll enjoy the River San Rafael‘s crystalline water. After that, we return to Villa Tunari for dinner and accommodation.

Day 2  Parque Machia
Early in the morning we head to the rock cocks-of-the-walk, after breakfast we visit “Parque Machia” that is a shelter for ill-treated wild animals – spider, capuchin and squirrel monkeys, badgers, jochis, pumas, bears, sloths, parrots. You certainly will have the chance to watch a wide range of monkeys and parrots. At 12:00 o’clock we have lunch in Villa Tunari and leave to Buena Vista where we spend the night.

Day 3  La Chonta
During the morning we have a short coffee break in that coffee-growing village. Then we continue our trip to River Surutú where we take our ecological transportation to La Chonta hostel for accommodation. Free morning, lunch prepared by the local village women. During the afternoon we go for a walk to River Saguayo along a path where we enjoy the local fauna and flora, especially birds and mammals. You can have a refreshing swim in the crystalline water natural pools. After that we go back to the hostel, after dinner accommodation at La Chonta hostel.

Day 4  Sendero Helechos (Fern Path)
Early in the morning we go for a bird-watch walk near Lagunita del Serere, a swampy area that captivates local animals. We go back to the hostel for breakfast and afterwards we head for another walk along the Fern Path where our guide explains us about the endemic flora of that primary forest.  We return to the hostel for lunch and during the afternoon we can make our choice among several options: daily village activities, typical meal cooking, making of some characteristic local handicraft or others. Dinner and accommodation at the hostel and if you like we can still go for another night walk in order to watch the footprints of nocturnal animals that live in the Park.
