Qala Uta means “Stone house” in Aymara language, is an associations formed by two communities located in two ecological zones from Cordillera Real: Uma Palca located at the high of 4000 m in the foothills of the snowy mountains and Challana located at the high of 2800 m in a tropical zone (Yungas). Offers trekking and sport stays that allow tourists coexist with both communities and walking, enjoying the beauty of the landscapes that surround them.

The proposed circuits are adapted to the conditions and desires of travelers, it offer stays very sportive (climbing, trekking, famous picks ascents like Condoriri or Huayna Potosi), beautiful walks and stunning lakes where you can go fishing, visits to inland mine or a peaceful stay (one day treks, participation in the daily activities of the communities), that will allow you to get a little closer to their way of life and know their territory, nature, culture, knowledge and religion.

Day 1: La Paz –Santos Shelter
We pick up you from your hotel at 08:00 am in a 4WD, we arrive to Peñas’s community, where Tupak Katari an Indian resistance leader was sacrificed, then we continue towards Cordillera Real, stop by Khrakhotav and Khotia lagoons (4570 masl). We arrive to Santos shelter where our friends from Uma Palca wait for us, before dinner we have a culture exchange to prepare out next adventure day.

Day 2: Khota Pata lagoon
Early in the morning we go for a trekking towards Khota Pata lagoon (4600 masl), where we have lunch and practice sport fishing, we continue trekking up Tres Picos glacier lagoon (4800 masl) where you can appreciate a beautiful view from the snowy and the Tres picos mountains (5218 masl).We return to the lodge in the evening to share dinner with our friends from the community.

Day 3: Santos shelter  –  La Paz
After breakfast we have two options:
•    Spend the morning climbing and boulder in Chok’e Santuruni hill.
•    Visit Uma Palca community, to know their customs and life style from our friends.

After lunch we return to La Paz city in a 4WD.

Trekking in QalaUta - 5 days / 4 nights

Day 1: La Paz – SANTOS SHELTER

Day 3: Santos Shelter – San Juan Shelter
We departure early in the morning after breakfast for a 4 to 5 hours trekking from Santos shelter towards Challana community. Descending towards Challana will experience weather and ecosystems changes towards the mountains and valleys, on the way we see medical plants and their uses. When we arrive at San Juan shelter in Challana we take advantage from the afternoon to visit the community and its colonial church with 18th century manuscripts.

Day 4: Challana community
In the morning we go to a crop demonstration at Challana’s community, after lunch we take the afternoon for sport fishing in Challana’s River. We share dinner with our friends from the community.

Day 5: San Juan Shelter – LA Paz
After breakfast we say goodbye to our friends from Challana, and we return to La Paz city in a 4WD.

Recommendations:
Wear warm clothes, walking shoes, cap and sunscreen, we recommended limit language weight to 15 kg per person in walking.
