Lake Titicaca is located on the border between northern Bolivia and southern Peru. It is considered the highest commercially navigable body of water in the world (3821m). Lake Titicaca was the foundation of the most influential pre-Hispanic cultures of the Andean Region. Best destination is Copacabana Peninsula with its Sun and Moon Islands.

Ch’alla Community/ Copacabana/ La Paz

ACTUSOL is a Project that is located in Ch’alla community at the middle of Sun Island. This community characterize by preserve its ancestral and cultural Aymara history, is the guardian of the archaeological site “Chincana” (Labyrinth) where is located, between others, the famous and magic “Roca Sagrada” (Sacred Rock).
This community hosts tourist in rural households, to create an interaction between community members and visitors.

Day 1 Copacabana – Sun Island
In the morning the local guide will wait for us at Copacabanas’s main square, the main door access to Titicaca’s lake. We departure to Sun Island in a collective boat, the tour last two hours and a half approximately. We arrive to the island by Challa community port, we install in the rooms that habitants prepared for us in their own homes. After lunch webegin a trekking to visit La Chinkana, the main Inca archeological site from the “Isla Sagrada” (Sacred Island). After a snack we return to the community by sailing boat. During dinner we can share a night with myths and legends.

Day 2 Sun Island – Copacabana  
Next day afterbreakfast, we begin a trekking through the southern part from the Island. We visit Yumani community, where we see the Pilkkokaina ruins. After lunch we say good bye to our guide to board the boat that takes us to Copacabana.

We recommended our visitors to wear warm clothing, hiking shoes, hat, sunscreen and sleeping bag.

Sun Island - 3 DAYS/2 NIGHT
  • Starts: La Paz
  • Ends: La Paz

DAY 1 La Paz – Sun Island
We leave In the morning from La Paz city to Copacabana, the main access port tothe sacred lake; we visit its templeand admirethe famousCopacabana Virgin. After lunch, weset by boat towards Sun Island; the route all the way through the lake takes approximately two and a half hours. We arrive to Challapampa Community in the northern part of the Island. From there we walk for about 30 minutes until arrive Challa community where a family wait to welcomeus; we accommodate in the rooms that community members designated for us in their own homes. After dinner foster family could tell us about myths and legends in the Island.

Day 2 The Chinkana
After breakfast we begin a walk course to La Chinkana, the main archeological place in the island. After the visit a typical dish will be shared. We come back to Ch’alla community by sailing boat. At the community you may participate in the everyday inhabitants life before dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3 Sun Island – La Paz  
In the morning we say good bye to our friends from Challa to address Yumani community, we visit the southern part from the island that also counts with Inca ruins. We take the boat back to Copacabana for lunch. We have free time to walk the town before returning to La Paz city.
